The organisation
ALC Alpine Lions Cooperation
ALC is based in Bassano del Grappa (District 108 TA1 Italy) in the office of the General Secretary, Past District Governor (PDG) LF Guido Cella.
ALC is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of one delegate per member district, appointed for a period of three years according to the rules of each individual Lions district. They may be re-elected for one additional term.
Their participation is free of charge, except for reimbursement of expenses, which must be approved in advance by the sending district. This Board of Directors forms the ALC Board of Directors.
The respective District Governor is free to attend the meetings of the Board of Directors.
Board meetings are open to all Lions members of ALC member districts unless a majority of the Board decides otherwise. However, they do not have the right to speak or vote unless they present an activity or are specifically requested to do so by the Board Chairperson.
Start of ALC
The idea of bringing together the Lions districts of the Alpine regions into one association was born after the devastating earthquake in Abruzzo in 2009.
Many Austrian associations made financial contributions, such as the construction of a children’s library in L’Aquila.
The library project was designed by architect Albert Ortner, Governor of the district of Ta1.
He was responsible for international relations from 2009 to 2010.
in Central Europe
A joint working platform for Lions districts and their clubs across national borders. It now seamlessly connects the Adriatic area with the Ligurian Sea, in the best sense of a common Central European mindset. ALC was created to realise the goals of Lions Clubs International, taking into account the special needs and characteristics of the people in this and its neighbouring areas.
The objectives of ALC are in line with those of LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL
Awakening and nurturing
the spirit of mutual understanding among the peoples of the world
Connecting clubs in friendship
through mutual understanding, co-creation and ethical coexistence
The objectives of ALC reflect
The MISSION of LIONS
To provide volunteer service to the community and help with humanitarian needs, promoting peace and international understanding through Lions Clubs
The VISION of LIONS
To be LEADERS in our service to the community and helping people
The Edelweiss
A flower that unites all the nations of the ALC districts.
A symbol of perseverance under the difficult conditions of life in the Alps, simple in appearance, but in reality resilient and strong.
In October 2015, the Legal Division of LCI in Oak Brook authorised the use of the ALC trademark and the ‘LIONS’ logo for ALC.
This expresses appreciation and recognition for our international cooperation and is legally anchored.
How does ALC work?
- Each member district appoints an ALC chairperson for 3 years, these together form the board, they elect a president, secretary and treasurer from their midst.
- The Board meets once a year for the General Assembly, a second time if required (or ONLINE meeting).
- Each year, one project per member district can be submitted for ALC support. The selected project is then supported by all members until its completion.
- The projects are financed by the districts (Lions clubs) paying an annual contribution of EUR 2.00 per member. These funds can only be used to support the selected projects.
Responsibilities of the Board
- Electing one member from each district as President and Vice President (annually), Secretary and Treasurer (every three years)
- To regulate relations between member districts
- To develop proposals for Lion service initiatives and projects to achieve the goals of ALC
- To set annual dues for club members
- To meet annually in one of the member districts to select project proposals submitted by member districts
- To vote on a Lion district’s application to join an Alpine or contiguous Lions district. Voting on the application of a Lions district to join an Alpine or neighbouring Lions district
- Voting on the exclusion of a member district by a two-thirds majority
- Ensuring that information on ALC activities is provided through existing and future means of communication, to be prepared and communicated to the member districts
- Within 4 months after the end of the official Lions year, submit the financial and annual report, including the balance sheet of assets and liabilities, for the fiscal year ended 30 June of the previous year. June of the previous year. The financial year is the same as the Lions year.
