Our mission

Strong together, great movement

The Alpine Lions Cooperation ALC offers the unique opportunity to develop and support social services across district and national borders. In 2012, ALC was founded between two Italian, two Austrian, two Bavarian and one Swiss district. Two Italian districts and the Slovenian district were added in place of Switzerland East.

The central task of ALC is to select one or two projects per year and to advise, monitor progress and finance these selected projects. These initiatives are financed by an annual contribution of just EUR 2 per member. Projects worth between EUR 10,000 and 20,000 can be proposed by individual clubs or zones by 31 March each year.

My name is Hubert Gärtner, I am member of Lions Club Sierning in District 114 Center Austria and I am in the year 2024/25 President of ALC (Alpine Lions Cooperation).

The ALC is a cooperation of different districts in the Alpine countries, currently of 1 district in Slovenia, 2 districts in Austria, 1 district in Germany and 6 districts in Italy. In addition to the Lion objectives WE SERVE , the ALC also aims to provide support and assistance in the Alpine regions.

It is particularly important for us to address the issue of climate change in the Alpine regions. Each member, currently 25,000, pays 2 euros per year. These 50,000 euros are used to support projects in the individual districts. At the moment, we are particularly busy updating and modernizing our homepage, intensifying social media and sharpening the statutes, especially with regard to the criteria for projects.

Two projects that we are currently pursuing particularly intensively are to become long-term joint projects of the districts. Firstly, problems that arise for the mountain economy due to climate change and secondly, vacations for senior citizens who cannot afford their own vacation under the theme “Holidays with friends”.

If I could make one final wish, then my greatest wish would be that Switzerland, which is not yet a member, and which you could say is the heart of the Alps, would also become a member of the ALC.
